We have an extra-special Donor of the Day to honor today! It’s Mrs. Tina Weeks! Tina supports early childhood literacy every day in her work with WJCC Public Schools AND is a foundation member of the Kiwanis Club of the Tri-Rivers. Tina gives because, in her words, “As an early childhood educator, I know how important it is to provide young children with oral language models in the form of reading aloud. The Dolly Parton Imagination Library is a way to provide our neighbors with free books for their young children from birth to age 5 when their brains are making the most growth. I’m proud to be a member of the Kiwanis of Tri-Rivers and to sponsor a child in my community.”

Days 4, 5 and 6 were sponsored by a generous friend named Tim, who was familiar with the program from another community and shared “anything that puts more books into the hands of children that might not otherwise have them — I’m down!” Tim’s $93 donation will support Dolly Parton Imagination Library membership for three children in King William for the next year!
Tim’s a big fan of hiking and camping and always has a book in his pack. Thanks for your support, Tim!

Today’s donor of the day wished to remain anonymous, so instead we’ll share a picture of two of her favorite things! A cat & books!

Today’s Donor of the Day is Barb Shelton! Barb shared a picture of her daughter reading to her ducks. About ducks! She added, “Reading is important to our children. It builds vocabulary, imagination, and self-esteem. I remember reading “Good Night, Moon” over and over again and how proud my children were when they were able to read it to me!”

Today kicks off our 31/30 campaign to raise funds for our Dolly Parton Imagination Library Campaign. We are seeking one community donor to contribute $31 each day in April. 30 donors in 31 days. Why $31? A donation of $31 provides 12 books a year — one per month — for a child in our community. It’s that simple!
Today’s $31 donor is West Point Resident and Tri-Rivers Kiwanis member Laura Johnson!
When asked what motivated her to support the program, Laura said, “Even though my own children are over 5, I’m so excited to be able to help bring this program to King William! As a parent, there are few moments more precious than those quiet nights spent reading with my girls. Even if it was the same book over, and over, an over!”
